Excellent result for TakeLab in SemEval STS competition Print

TakeLab team participated in the SemEval 2012 STS competition on determining semantic similarity of short texts. The two systems TakeLab team submitted to the contest won the overall second and the third place in the competition of over 80 different systems. Overall, this put TakeLab team in the excellent 2nd place in the compettion of over 30 different teams, many of which representing renowned universities. This success enabled TakeLab to participate in the *SEM conference that is going to be held in Montreal, Canada in the beginning of June.

TakeLab member Goran Glavaš presented the work "Experiments on Hybrid Corpus-Based Sentiment Lexicon Acquisition" at the EACL 2012 conference. The work was presented as part of the workshop on "Innovative Hybrid Approaches to Process Text Data". Besides finding out recent work in natural language processing and networking the conference provided a great opportunity to visit Provence.

Artur giving a talk at IIT Delhi

TakeLab member Artur Šilić presented his work "Exploring Classification Concept Drift on a Large News Text Corpus" at the CICLING 2012 conference held in Delhi, India. Besides news from Inteligent Text Analysis and Computational Linguistics, experiences were supplemented with a rich cultural program.

TakeLab members Goran Glavaš and Mladen Karan participated in the Winter School in Language and Speech Technologies (WSLST 2012) in Tarragona, Spain. They attended the courses on word sense disambiguation (WSD), semantic similarity, and information extraction (IE). The lectures were held by the leading researchers in the respective fields, professors Eneko Agirre (University of the Basque Country) and Ralph Grishman (New York University).

Popular Croatian magazine Globus included Intelligent Text Analyzer (ITA), a project developed by TakeLab in collaboration with the company INTER SIG, into 30 most innovative Croatian ideas of the year 2011. More information, including the article (in Croatian) is available here.
